The meal began with the most refreshingly light and airy appetizers that provided a glimpse into the culinary genius of the restaurant with some subtle flavours and interesting textures coming together to set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The appetizers consisted of a Spicy Cucumber Salad, a delightful tango of sour and spice, that preps you for the upcoming feast. The next appetizer is the Soft Shell Crab, this delicate and buttery preparation of the crustacean is a textural marvel. Each bite is a delightful surprise, the sweetness of the crabmeat perfectly complemented by the nutty richness of the oatmeal cradling it. Just to further emphasize their expertise at treating gorgeous, fresh seafood, we had the Prawn Toast next and the wasabi mayo brought a kick that awakened the senses.
Accompanying the food was the most deliciously fruity Cocktail called Gliding On The Winds, a stiff vodka drink with Litchi, Mangosteen and Orange Blossom to add the sweet and sour note.
Up next, we tasted the Radish Puff, consisting of tender barbecue Chicken nestled within the Radish shell. Thus creating a delightful fusion of sweet and savoury, it is an intense burst of flavour that will leave you wanting more. Following that was the Song Lu Cheong Fun, a textural and umami masterpiece. King oyster mushrooms, with their meaty texture, swimming in a rich black truffle broth that practically shimmers. It’s a luxurious indulgence and an ode to TanCha’s dedication to using the most exquisite ingredients and highlighting them in a way that turns them into Must Try dishes!
The mains were the most traditional part of the meal and featured Prawn and Cashew Nuts, a highly textural stir-fry with juicy prawns, cooked to perfection, mingling with crunchy cashews, creating a delightful interplay of soft and firm. The light sauce ties everything together, leaving you wanting more. Next up, was a vegetarian’s idea of paradise, the delightfully simple ingredients of Stir-fried Sting Beans and Salted Olives turned into a wonderfully refreshing dish with crispy sting beans and slightly bitter olives.
However, the star of the main course was undoubtedly the jasmine tea smoked crispy chicken. Imagine, the fragrance of jasmine blossoms clinging to every morsel of crispy chicken skin, and the most succulent meat underneath it.
We ended this rich, lush, sumptuous evening with two equally rich and luscious desserts, the “Crispy Banana Fritters with ice cream.” Imagine warm, golden pillows encasing the delightful sweetness of ripe Bananas, each bite melted with a scoop of creamy ice cream, and for the more adventurous palates, the “Coconut Fantasy” presented an otherworldly experience – a light coral sponge cake, underneath a scoop of pistachio ice cream, the flavors melding into a third, equally wondrous thing inside your mouth.
TanCha is not just a restaurant, it is an experience, a comforting, immersive, authentic and highly curated experience that seeks to leave you astounded and nostalgic at the same time. The genius of TanCha, lies in elevating classic dishes using the most luxurious ingredients and still retaining the original quality that made it a classic in the first place.
